TEAM

Hi Skillzzz McShane, welcome back to the Glasgow ultimate scene, you've been away for a while.

How does it feel to be playing again?

Sore? Yeah it feels good. A bit of a wake up call that I'm fatter and slower, but it's good to see some of

the old guard and the new talent coming through. Glasgow was always the most fun place for

ultimate.

This is your first summer league and you've dived in head first to take charge of a team. Are you enjoying the format and your role as captain?

Actually it's my second, I won this thing last year. I wasn't a captain then though. I much prefer it this year, mostly because I've had a large part to play in selecting my team, who I'm delighted with. A great spread of experience and sexiness. I mean sexes.

Did you have a style of play in mind when you thought about team selection?

Not particularly. I always try to select teams that are fair and fun. Foremost in Ultimate is enjoying yourself, though it doesn't hurt to be competitive either. I can see Glasgow summer league as an event where Glasgow based players can learn from each other and develop their own style while as a group. My own particular style of Ultimate is also a bit uniquely self-harming, so I can't really expect others to follow suit.

You have a lot of experience on your team but failed to pick up any points in full sided games. Do you think you are missing a bit of youthful energy?

Is that a dig at my age?? I'm sure if we worked it out Midges average player age wouldn't be much different from all the other teams. The fact that we haven't picked up any points in the full sided games doesn't concern me. In week one we ran an all male Irn Cru to 10-9. Week 2 we again ran another 'stronger' team (1 female, who was ill) close, and in week 4 I believe we were a bit short on numbers. I've got no doubt that we'll start winning these games sooner rather than later. Play with pride, never quit.

A convincing clean sweep in week 2 at the 5v5 tournament, that must have been satisfying.

Big time. It may be 5v5 but it's still outdoor Ultimate. It shows what Midges are capable of.

Does it give you confidence that you can turn this season around? How do you intend to do that?

I don't need a 5v5 clean sweep to be confident about turning things around. I'm confident regardless. I think we just need a couple of weeks with our full squad turning up. We've a good bunch of players, and we gel quite well.

In 5 words, what does it mean to be a Midge?

Hot Hearts, Cool Heads. Affleck.

Who do you think will be the stiffest competition entering round 2 of games?

Probably Irn Cru. They seem to be the most eager to win.

You are up against an undefeated Irn Cru this Sunday, what's the game plan?

Intensity. No prisoners. They're top of the table and need to be taught a lesson, like we did against them at the round robin.

What would Affleck do?

Man the guns, join the fight. And then probably call Jason Bourne and Bruce Willis to save the day properly.
