Captains Interview
Hi Asif, how does it feel to be back captaining Irn Cru as the defending Summer
League Champions?
Yeah it's awesome, I always appreciate the opportunity to get more involved and to
have some more influence into an ultimate team.
Two weeks in and you are already top of the table, how confident are you that Irn Cru can retain the title?
Well it's still really early, but yeah it's a good start for us, picking up from last year. I am very confident in the players I have in the squad, retaining is our main goal this season.
Your team has a distinct lack of females this year. Was this a concious decision or just the luck of the draft?
Well yeah I've been hearing some mutterings about that, but it's mainly just down to the draft. The girls I wanted weren't available/had already been selected and the ones that were still free agents weren't available on the game-weeks I really needed extra players. I've got 2 in the team right now (With potentially more if some wildcards turn up).
You will have first pick on wild card players this week, are you holding out for any big names?
I wouldn't say a 'big name' but rather someone I know is going to be there on the game-weeks. I have certain qualities I would prefer such as being a good player/knowledgeable on ultimate, but just as long as they are keen to play really.
Talk us through the opening game against Ravenous Midges.
Well it was a struggle but we managed to get through it. We had 9 players including 2 beginners so it was a bit tough to keep the intensity up. We can out strong, managed to maintain our lead for awhile, but then they got some momentum and we had to push really hard to secure the win. Really well done to everyone involved.
They got revenge on you in the 5v5 tournament, what did you think about this format?
Yeah they did unfortunately, first loss of the season (and hopefully our last). The 5v5 was an interesting change which was probably necessary considering the lack of people that week (Windmill).
How do you respond to those that have knick named you "Team Evil"?
Well it's only been 1 official game so far, I don't see how people can name us 'team evil', but we'll make sure that we're well spirited. Summer-league is about enjoying some ultimate with people you've never met before and we'll make sure that we don't detract from that.
Your game this weekend is against Mayhem, how do you see that going?
We have a really strong team line up for this weekend, and we'll be coming out strong. Audrey just came back from tour 2 and is playing as-well as ever, so I'm sure she'll have her team motivated. We're just focusing on our game and coming out and putting in a strong performance.
Finally, I believe you have planned some post game entertainment for us this weekend, what should we expect?
After some deliberation we've decided to do a pub quiz in summer-league teams. Since this is officially the second game-week people still don't really know each-other so it'll give the teams a chance to get to know their team-mates.
